The Six Pillars of Characters Movies
At Evergreen Elementary School, students and staff discuss The Six Pillars of Character (charactercounts.org) every Friday morning during our Community Meeting. The Six Pillars of Character is a framework for teaching good character and is composed of six ethical values (characteristics) everyone can agree upon: Trustworthiness; Respect; Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship.
For my final project, I wanted to create movies about each of The Six Pillars of Character. I wanted students from our school to interview local Alaska Native community members. My hope was that the people being interviewed would share their personal insight about one pillar and also share a little about their culture. Several community members agreed to participate, but due to scheduling conflicts we were unable to film everyone. My goal is to finish making these movies in 2017. Many students in different grade levels were eager to participate and several of the students are related to the adults whom they interviewed.
